I have used it for awhile now before putting in a review. It is holding up great. Dries food perfectly. Have so much fresh fruit and veggies given to me I didn't want any of it to go to waste. Holds a lot of food at one time. It also works great if you use no heat at all. Or very low heat. Which works great when making bread crumbs or croutons. This Thanksgiving I will be making my stuffing from my own dried croutons this year. I use my unit on my back porch. If you use it inside your entire house will smell like what you are drying, and it remains for days. When you are drying onions - well, not so good, unless you love the smell of onions. I love doing this. It like a craft or sicence project. My first criteria is that it had to be all stainless steel. I avoid plastics and nonstick surfaces at all costs as they are toxic. When this dehydrator first arrived, I was very excited, as it appeared to be everything that I wanted. The reason I am giving it four stars has nothing to do with the construction of the product. It is 100% stainless steel. The only plastic is on the outer surface which does not come in contact with food. The four stars has to do with the fact that the first one I received did not function properly. I had read other reviews about people having problems with this dehydrator not getting up to the proper temperature. Reading between the lines on a lot of those reviews I could tell that these people had little experience with dehydrating vegetables or fruits, which have a lot of liquid in them and take a long time to dehydrate. in addition, in the beginning with such water-based, fruits and vegetables, the dehydrator will not maintain a consistent temperature because the excess moisture that is being evaporated off, pulls the temperature out of the dehydrator unit. I have been dehydrating for a lifetime and I understand this completely so I did not pay a lot of attention to those negative reviews. However, the first unit that they sent me did not perform up to standards. I had begun dehydrating some vegetables and I noticed after four hours nothing had changed. I pulled all of the vegetables out of the dehydrator and put my remote temperature probe in and turned the dehydrator back on to a specified temperature of 145° to see if it would actually reach this temperature. It did not. I had to turn it up to 190° to get it to perform at 145. In addition to get it to maintain that temperature I had to wedge paper towels into the cracks around the door frame to get it to maintain the temperature. I knew that the thermostat in this unit was defective so I contacted Amazon and asked for a replacement. Amazon sent me a replacement within three days and I tested the replacement unit in exactly the same manner as the first unit. The replacement unit worked as it should. I have been dehydrating with it now for a week and it works flawlessly. In fact, this is probably the best dehydrator I have ever owned. I would love to give it five stars, but I attempted to contact the company before I contacted Amazon and they gave me a little bit of runaround making excuses that I didn’t know what I was doing. I did not appreciate this as I am well-versed in the practice of dehydration. So, what I can tell you is that I would highly recommend this product but if by chance you get one that does not perform right out of the box send it back for replacement. I am assuming this is a one off and doesn’t happen a lot. When this dehydrator first arrived, I was very excited, as it appeared to be everything that I wanted. The reason I am giving it four stars has nothing to do with the construction of the product. It is 100% stainless steel. The only plastic is on the outer surface which does not come in contact with food. The four stars has to do with the fact that the first one I received did not function properly. I had read other reviews about people having problems with this dehydrator not getting up to the proper temperature. Reading between the lines on a lot of those reviews I could tell that these people had little experience with dehydrating vegetables or fruits, which have a lot of liquid in them and take a long time to dehydrate. in addition, in the beginning with such water-based, fruits and vegetables, the dehydrator will not maintain a consistent temperature because the excess moisture that is being evaporated off, pulls the temperature out of the dehydrator unit. I have been dehydrating for a lifetime and I understand this completely so I did not pay a lot of attention to those negative reviews. However, the first unit that they sent me did not perform up to standards. I had begun dehydrating some vegetables and I noticed after four hours nothing had changed. I pulled all of the vegetables out of the dehydrator and put my remote temperature probe in and turned the dehydrator back on to a specified temperature of 145° to see if it would actually reach this temperature. It did not. I had to turn it up to 190° to get it to perform at 145. In addition to get it to maintain that temperature I had to wedge paper towels into the cracks around the door frame to get it to maintain the temperature. I knew that the thermostat in this unit was defective so I contacted Amazon and asked for a replacement. Amazon sent me a replacement within three days and I tested the replacement unit in exactly the same manner as the first unit. The replacement unit worked as it should. I have been dehydrating with it now for a week and it works flawlessly. In fact, this is probably the best dehydrator I have ever owned. I would love to give it five stars, but I attempted to contact the company before I contacted Amazon and they gave me a little bit of runaround making excuses that I didn’t know what I was doing. I did not appreciate this as I am well-versed in the practice of dehydration. So, what I can tell you is that I would highly recommend this product but if by chance you get one that does not perform right out of the box send it back for replacement. I am assuming this is a one off and doesn’t happen a lot.
